An enterprising demonstration to the general public of how little it costs to build a modern spacious home has been provided by the Wunderlich "Durabestos" Home and garden display situated at Broadway, Sydney.

A vacant block of land in front of Tooth's Brewery has been transformed into a colourful garden display, on which is erected a "Durabestos" Model Home and various examples of Wunderlich Terra Cotta Roofing Tiles, Colortex Bricks and other building materials.

The Model Home itself comprises a lounge room, two bedrooms, dining room, kitchen—with dining alcove—laundry and bathroom, and is well provided with windows to ensure the utmost natural light and ventilation. The home is fully furnished throughout and equipped with hot water, electric light, gas, and all modern labour-saving conveniences.

The materials employed comprise "Durabestos" asbestos-cement flat building sheets to exterior and interior walls; "Durabestos" guttering and down-pipes; Colortex Bricks to base of walls and chimney; Terra Cotta Tiles to porch and laundry floor; "Durable" asbestos-cement tile pattern sheets to bathroom and kitchen; Terra Cotta Fireplace surround and Fire-clay brickettes to fire-place and hearth; Wunderglaze electro-copper glazing to glass panel doors, bathroom window and light fittings; Metal Ceilings throughout. The roof is of Wunderlich Terra Cotta Roofing Tiles.

A home built to the plan of the "Durabestos" Model Home could be erected for approximately £750 to £800, furniture and furnishings, of course, excluded, though in the case of the Model Home the cost was in excess of that figure because of some special fittings that were introduced.
