Summary This paper responds to the conference theme by considering an effective collaborative approach to provide an authentic learning environment for students of architecture and construction. It is argned that the outcome, a CDROM that provides students with a rich resource of data concerning a real bnilding, could not have been achieved without the professional collaboration of multiple parties: the academics teaching architecture and construction as the discipline experts; the educational designer as the pedagogical expert; tecinIical experts; members of the profession who designed and constructed the building in question and the builder's users who provided a vital reference point
