Summary This thesis investigated the relationships between childhood sexual abuse characteristics and women's later psychological adjustment. Research findings indicated attributions regarding the abuse generally improved over time, particularly when social and family support was accessible. Survivors expressed concerns regarding parenting competency, marital satisfaction and a preference for avoidant coping methods. The clinical thesis investigates the relationship between the best interests principle in relation to children and the converse considerations of risk.
