Summary Explores the key theme of the nature, extent and impact of experiencing more than one type of maltreatment. Two major studies are reported - parents perceptions of primary school children's family characteristics, experiences of maltreatment and adjustment. The second relies on retrospective reports of adult's childhood experiences. The manner in which family variables influence the relationships between maltreatment and adjustment are explored. Evidence for both mediating and moderating processes in presented.
