Summary This study examined the influence of the family environment on children's physical activity via four inter-related studies of over 1500 children. Findings indicated mothers' modelling of physical activity, barriers, family rules and restrictions, self-efficacy and physical features within the home environment were significant predictors of children's physical activity.
