Summary This thesis explored older adults' experiences of successful ageing. Self-acceptance, attitudes to ageing, and flexibility emerged as influencing factors. Acceptance was described as a personal struggle and underpinned criteria of successful ageing. Overall, ageing successfully seems anchored in our need to become integrated and find meaning in life.
