Summary The characterisation of novel bovine RNA polymerase III promoters for the expression of short hairpin RNAs for gene silencing resulted in the identification of a highly efficient promoter sequence. The replication of bovine viral diarrhea virus was them suppressed using short hairpin RNAs expressed form this promoter in vitro.
