Summary Assesses the relationship between leisure-time physical activity and sedentary behaviours in two cross-sectional studies of adults. Behavioural choice theory was applied to gain a better understanding of people's time allocation in these behaviours. The findings show that preference, reinforcement, and barriers are potentially important factors to consider in the study of the increasing population prevalence of sedentary lifestyles.
