Summary Twenty two, young, healthy individuals participated in three studies aiming to assess the effect of various types of physical activity - acute exercise of moderate intensity and duration, varying intensity, short-term training - on skeletal muscle GLUT-4 gene and protein expression as well as on a range of genes encoding the proteins involved in carbohydrate metabolism in skeletal muscle.
