Summary This investigation demonstrates that board determination of CEO pay goes beyond financial performance to consider what is considered legitimate remuneration in the context of an informationally efficient CEO pay packet. These decisions are tested in a multi-layered institutionalised environment maintained by the core agency concept of shareholder primacy.
