Project name CLSM study of organic fouling of filtration membranes
Project Description Investigation into the interactions between membrane surface and foulants by using a confocal laser scanning microscope. This is so the mechanisms governing membrane fouling can be better understood and novel antifouling membrane materials or surface treatment can be designed for water/waste water treatment.

Summary This data was obtained from an experiment, where polycarbonate (PC) membranes were used to filter two types of organic foulants, including protein and sodium alginate, from suspension in a dead-end filtration cell. These model foulants were stained with fluorescent dyes before filtration. Consequently, a stack of images were captured from the fouling layers on the PC membrane surface using confocal laser scanning microscope (CLSM). This data collection contains 105 2D images of polycarbonate (PC) membranes fouling layer. This data collection would be useful to investigate membrane fouling mechanism by membrane materials researchers and water researchers.
General notes The data was newly generated by a confocal laser scanning microscopy (CLSM) instrument and associated computer. Guide available with the collection as notes.
