Summary This work focused on the in vivo fatty acid metabolism of freshwater fish, towards minimising the unsustainable use of fish oil in aquaculture feed. A series of innovative nutritional approaches have been hypothesised and verified for maximising the omega-3 long chain polyunsaturated fatty acid biosynthesis capabilities of cultured fish.
