Summary Few-layered boron carbon nitride nanosheets are synthesized by a simple and environmentally friendly process. The BCN nanosheets have 2–6 atomic layers with high surface area and show enhanced storage performance in lithium batteries, as well as a stable capacity of ~ 100 mA h g?¹ at 2 A g?¹ for 5000 cycles.
