Summary This research extends the investigations into the chemiluminescence and electrochemiluminescence of platinum group metal reagents and their applications. The effect of the chemical nature of tris(2,2'-bipyridyl)ruthenium(II) and selected analogues on the chemiluminescence reaction is further explored, and this chemistry is extended to include novel iridium(III) and osmium(II) based chemiluminescence reagents.
