Summary Hollow mesoporous silica nanoparticles (HMSNs) were synthesized via a new strategy. HMSNs have a high drug loading, controlled release behaviour, and specifically targeting when bioconjugated with Epidermal Growth Factor. The promising in vitro cell tests have revealed the great potential of the HMSNs to be used for cancer therapy.
