Summary This study investigated the silk cocoon structure and its protective roles. It focussed mainly on three protection roles, viz mechanical protection (indentation), bacterial and UV protection. Silk cocoon absorbed UV-A and UV-B radiations and had the potential to be used as a photoprotective agent in sunscreens.
