Summary  Corrosion inhibition mechanisms on the aerospace alloy, AA2024-T3, was investigated for the inhibitor combination of rare earth metals and mercaptoacetate. The inhibitor demonstrated synergistic protection for AA2024-T3 from localised corrosion. It is intended to be a more environmentally friendly alternative to toxic chromate-based inhibitors.
