Summary This thesis investigated the nature of treatment-resistant depression and novel antidepressants utilizing a preclinical model of antidepressant-resistance. Chronic disruption of the stress response impaired response to antidepressants and altered dopamine signaling in this model. Inflammatory profile and energy regulation were identified as potential biomarkers for response to ketamine and lithium.
