Summary E-whiteboards - large image display surfaces (LIDS) that support data input with pen-based sketching - have become more readily available in recent times. We describe a prototype environment making use of this new user interface technology aimed at the teaching of digital circuit design and behaviour. In this paper we focus on some of the key user interface design and implementation challenges we faced when developing a prototype of this system. We also discuss results from usability evaluation of the prototype and directions for future research based on these results.
