Stakeholder Engagement
Summary Vision 2 develops and tests a collaborative model with a diverse level of stakeholders towards redefining and revitilizing central Geelong. The project is a formal (MoU) collaboration between the City of Greater Geelong (CoGG), Deakin University, Committee for Geelong (CFG) and the Department of Planning and Community Development (DPCD), to develop the new vision. A series of modules and outputs were explored and investigated to facilitate the substantial cross-discipline engagement across the different levels of stakeholders. Deakin University staff were in positions of director and leadership roles to organize and facilitate aspects of the project. The project was commissioned by Committee for Geelong and funded by Department of Planning and Community Development. One of the first initiations of the project was a Design Workshop. Hosted by the School of Architecture and Built Environment, the workshop involved cross-discipline professional, stakeholder and student collaboration to propose speculative thinking that led to the development of key scenarios and ideas in subsequent visioning activities. Multi-disciplinary groups were formed of the 81 participants from major architecture and urban design professions, Vision 2 project members, and Deakin architecture students to respond to the question; What can happen to central Geelong, in a physical and non-physical sense, to make it a truly great city? The event culminated in explorations of unrestrained idea generation for the central Geelong area. The workshop produced a rigorous discourse of the various proposals that were freely presented at the conclusion of the day. The recorded outputs of this event were later developed as thematic concepts that in turn helped to produce key scenarios for the next stages of the Vision 2 project and allowed for further dialogue for community engagement.
