Summary Copper(I) sulphide was examined as a model substrate for investigating the mechanisms and kinetics of chalcopyrite bioleaching. Surface evaluation techniques allowed the rate of copper extraction to be directly related to the surface species and EPS composition. The findings demonstrated that copper(I) sulphide has a higher reactivity and unchanging EPS.
