Aqua Optica is a quasi-scientific optical instrument which consist of a large aquatic lens mounted on a timber tripod. Projected images of celestial objects are viewed by the observer through the lens. The content of the work refers relationships between the eye of the observer, the instruments of science and the celestial.
Presentation of celestial images, mostly Saturn, morphing and distorting in the Aqua Optica projection and lens system. The Aqua Optic artifact is presented as an arcane and anachronistic Instrument of celestial observation.
Notes
The prototype for Aqua Optica was exhibited in the exhibition titled, Microscopic/Telescopic (universes unfold) at the Bundoora Homestead Gallery in August 2013. This second version involved a number of improvements with the optical system and additional sculptural elements.
