Summary This study answered how site-specific water quality criteria (WQC) could be derived with a considerable applicability. It involved how to incorporate appropriate toxicity data and presented a preliminary field validation. The findings would be helpful in deriving WQC for other river systems from similar geographical area as Liao River.
