Summary This project investigated green enzymatic and chemical catalysis in a new type of solvents, ionic liquids, for reducing the shrinkage and felting behaviour of Australian Merino wool. It explored the relationship between properties of ionic liquids and enzyme performances. It developed several green systems for the wool surface treatment.
