Summary Advanced spectroscopic methods of Raman spectral mapping and Surface Enhanced Raman Spectroscopy have been developed to investigate the carbon fibre surface. These methods were applied to investigate the surface functionality introduced by oxidative treatments and the presence of size on the surface, both key contributors to carbon fibre composite properties.
