Summary This thesis generated new knowledge related to the role of seagrass meadows, salt marshes, and mangrove forests as dense carbon (C) sinks (‘blue carbon’), including the distribution and magnitude of blue C stocks, identification of environmental drivers of sediment C stocks, and the impacts of anthropogenic disturbance to sediment C.
