Summary  This study answered how Afghan women perceive domestic violence and gender roles during the time of settlement in Australia. The study identified Afghan women barriers to seeking help from informal social networks and domestic violence service providers. The findings have important implications for community involvement, domestic violence policy and social work practice with the multicultural society of Australia.
