Over the past 5 years the implementation of JM has been rolling out and currently 3 Traditional Owner groups – Yorta Yorta, Gunaikurnai, and Dja Dja Wurrung – are in partnership with the State of Victoria. There are also a number of other Traditional Owner groups operating within Co-management arrangements. Over the coming years, more Traditional Owner groups will follow in this partnership as land settlements are reached. Overall, the experiences of those involved in Joint Management during this review have mostly been positive, but like many new approaches they have been faced with a less than effective implementation framework that has led to roadblocks and unclear accountabilities which has led to unfulfilled expectations.
