Battery Fundamentals, Technologies, and Applications. Solid-state batteries have the potential to significantly improve the safety and performance of current state-of-the-art lithium-ion battery technology. They find applications in automobile and electronic industries; however, most commercial lithium-ion batteries are flammable, and their decomposition generates highly toxic gases that can be explosive. These two volumes (1413 and 1414) provide an overview of fundamental mechanisms, current challenges, and design strategies for solid-state batteries to meet the current demands for commercialization. This volume introduces the chemistry of solid-state batteries, including the architecture, electrolytes, and modeling. These volumes should interest chemists and materials scientists working on energy challenges.
