Textiles are used in many aspects of human life including garments, household textiles, ropes, tarpaulins and vehicles. The type of textiles used in different applications vary widely in fibre type and structure. This chapter is intended to introduce the forensic investigator to some of the common types of textiles that may be encountered, as well as begin to appreciate some of the considerations of textile testing.
