Australian force Somalia: deploying the 1 RAR Battalion Group, December 1992-January 1993

Deploying a 1,000-strong infantry battalion group and a national headquarters to Somalia at short notice over the Christmas-New Year 1992-1993 tested Australia's capability and capacity to project land forces and sustain them overseas. Concurrently, the Australian Defence Force had to support the Movement Control Unit that deployed in August 1992.
