An investigation into medical devices used in neurology is presented in this article. First, an overview of the nervous system and its components, followed by a definition of neurology are presented. Then, a brief description of neurological disorders together with examples of common types of neurological disorders are given. Next, screening tests and procedures to confirm a neurological disorder are listed, followed by a summary of the treatment and rehabilitation methods developed for some neurological disorders. After that, a definition of neurological devices is given, the development process for these devices is reviewed, and the existing standards devised to help developers, sponsors, and manufacturers of neurological devices are stated. Then, a classification of the neurological devices is presented. The classification is based on the use that the devices are intended for. Next, three groups of neurological devices are described: diagnostic, surgical, and therapeutic devices. In addition, a list of the specialized devices for each group is presented. Finally, the global neurological device market is reviewed.
