Abstract
Despite the World Health Organization (WHO) recommendation that all patients attend a rehabilitation program after a cardiac event, uptake is low. Patients experiencing depression are even less likely to use health services, thus elevating their risk of a recurrent event. This entry reviews the evidence of existing depression management programs for cardiac patients. The implications of treatment on health service utilization in this population are discussed.
