There is a strong case to be made for the need to celebrate the skill that Ingrid Bergman brought to her first collaboration with Roberto Rossellini in 'Stromboli' (1950). To turn a familiar argument on its head, I suggest that the maturity and integrity Bergman displayed in her personal life is mirrored in the professionalism and care she brought to her performance of Karin in Stromboli.
