This chapter analyses the relationship between the federal government and the news media during the 2016-2019 term of office of the coalition governments led by Malcolm Turnbull and then Scott Morrison. The two leaders' methods of engaging with the news media are analysed, alongside a discussion of the trend towards hyper-partisan coverage of politics in the mainstream media and on social media.
