The political economy of caste, forced displacement and impact on local communities’ welfare in Nepal

In this chapter, we focus on the deep-rooted ethnic/caste divisions in Nepal and the nexus of displacement and ethnic divisions on welfare heterogeneities since displacement. The main results indicate that there is no difference in the effect of displacement across ethnic lines. Displaced households however fared worse than non-displaced households across all ethnic groups in terms of economic and emotional welfare.
