(Un)dressing the Body: Underwear Stories and Audio Found Poetry

chapter
posted on 2024-03-07, 22:33 authored by Alys MendusAlys Mendus
This chapter troubles (and delights at) the challenge of undressing the body by exploring a research project that created audio found poems (see Mendus, 2023) from participant’s thoughts about underwear. Two aspects of Bodyography are explored in this chapter, one through the political and everyday thoughts of the participants and the author on underwear, and a second through the non-human agency of the underwear itself. The audio found poems weave together ways that society dresses the naked body in a series of veils, making it more acceptable, normative, and less triggering whilst at the same time asking important questions, such as who do we dress for and why?.
