In image matching no guarantee can be given that a solution exists, is unique, and is stable. This paper presents a method which utilises knowledge about the object present in two images to establish correspondence between the two images. In addition, the method uses the relative ordering of pixel intensities within a window, rather than the intensity values themselves. Experimental studies show that the proposed method is robust with respect to distortion, tolerates a small amount of random noise, and produces higher numbers of matched pixels than other similar matching methods.
