This paper proposes a semi-quadratic buck-boost converter that demonstrates a wider voltage conversion range, especially in boost mode. In comparison with the conventional buck-boost converter, this topology has continuous input and output current waveforms, being so beneficial when it comes to real-world applications. The proposed converter, additionally, is common-grounded, meaning that the polarity of the input voltage is the same as the polarity of the output voltage. Regarding the voltage and current stresses, the suggested converter has better performance in comparison with the structures having nearly the same conversion ratio, and this results in having semiconductor devices with lower on-resistance and, accordingly, lower conduction losses. The operating principle, design procedure, comparison with the other related topologies, and efficiency analysis are separately investigated and discussed. Eventually, to confirm the validity of the introduced converter, the simulation results are compared with the theoretically calculated values.
