The development of road safety strategic plans has been a key initiative of the NSW Local Government Road Safety Program. The objective is to establish a council-wide approach to road safety by integrating planning and operational practices with risk management. This presentation will discuss what we have learned about the process and benefits of developing these plans. It will illustrate outcomes using case studies from a number of councils. The paper will be of interest to practitioners working in road safety at the State, Local Government and community levels.
