This paper discusses an improved constant voltage based maximum power point tracking method for extracting maximum power from photovoltaic (PV) system. The improved method has better performance than the conventional fractional open circuit voltage (FOCV) method. By calculating accurate maximum power point voltage for any changing environmental conditions, the improved method can determine maximum power more accurately. MATLAB/Simulink has been used to implement a PV module (considering a single diode model). Simulation results are analyzed for variable solar irradiance to compare the performance of these two methods.
