Awaiting Not Waiting

Awaiting (not waiting) is a video-essay based on my performance-art practice using objects within sculptural installation. The concept behind my performance practice has emerged from an understanding that no single thing in the world is still--that all entities are subject to the forces of time (change). A desire to make these elemental forces more visible within gallery and museum spaces has led to a performative practice inhabiting and revealing the relational aspect of forms, by constantly arranging and rearranging elements and revealing new affordances and capacities. These performances make reference to what is in and outside the gallery; simultaneous occurrences, nature, light, air, space, time. In Awaiting/Not Waiting I show how this performance practice has invited an awareness of what is outside the gallery-in, and examples of taking what was inside the gallery (sculptural forms and performance out - into public space. Awaiting (not waiting) speaks to the subtlety held in the body between different mental states, (awaiting / waiting) and how, these can be made visible through performances with objects both in and outside the gallery. These performances are simple acts of tuning-in, shifting and changing in relation to other things, spaces and entities.
