In this paper, we present a comparative simulation and evaluation of digital cameras using spectroscopy, colorimetry and photogrammetry. Here, we compare the output of commercially available cameras to that yielded using the CIE-1931 colour standard and the colour matching functions proposed by Stiles and Burch [14]. We present a method to estimate the colour yielded by trichromatic cameras based upon their spectral response. We then present the results on three experimental vehicles and three commercially available cameras. We perform simulation using the spectrum of light emitted by black body radiators, the spectra of sample colours widely used for colour correction and present renderings using the spectra of known materials under controlled illumination conditions. © 2007 IEEE.
