conference contribution

This paper present the effects of integration of renewable energy sources (RES) in a microgrid in grid connected and islanded operation. To analyze the complementary effect of renewable energy penetration into microgrid, a fixed speed wind turbine equipped with squirrel cage induction generator (SCIG) and a grid connected solar system with maximum power point tracker (MPPT) are used. This paper also compares the effect of wind and solar penetration separately as well as jointly. A modified benchmark microgrid is used and the simulations are performed in the PSCAD/EMTDC environment. © 2012 IEEE.
