The defects such as partial discharge (PD), metallic particles in a SF6Gas Insulated Switchgear (GIS) apparatus initiate acoustic wave which can be detected using accelerometer or acoustic emission sensor placed outside the GIS enclosure. In this paper the acoustic diagnostic Technique for partial discharge and metallic particle in GIS are presented. The experimental investigation and acoustic signal from various defects in GIS has also discussed.
