The paper describes a preliminary investigation into the effectiveness of casting titanium treated steel via BHP Research's bloom caster and evaluating the response of these steels to the multiple reheat and deformation cycles which would be experienced during the casting and hot charge rolling of blooms to billets; rolling of billets to bars; and finally the forging of the bars into components.
