This Lightning Talk was delivered at the Asia Pacific Library and Information Conference, Gold Coast 2018. As part of a library professional development initiative at Deakin University, liaison librarians were given an opportunity to develop a deeper understanding of undertaking a research project. A team of five proactive and passionate liaison librarians embraced this initiative to become librarians as researchers. The team was interested in the relatively under-explored area of how academics perceive librarians. The research question was “How do Deakin academic staff perceive the role of liaison librarians?” The purpose was to collect and analyse data to better understand how academics at Deakin University perceive librarians, so as to help inform how liaison librarians at Deakin University undertake their work.
