This paper explores the impact of entrepreneurial orientation (EO) on business model innovation (BMI) and the mediating role of BMI on the relationship between EO and firm performance. Based on the data obtained from 197 Indian SMEs, the three dimensions of EO - proactiveness, innovativeness, and risk-taking positively influence BMI. This extends the literature by highlighting the influence of EO on a new form of innovation i.e. innovation in business models. Our findings also indicate that BMI mediates the relationship between EO and firm performance thereby explaining the causal link between EO and firm performance. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
