In order to design a wind conversion system (WCS) with desired stability and power quality, the mathematical modelling of the wind generator (WG) and associated parameter estimations are the preconditions. In this research work, for a Type-4 permanent magnet synchronous generator (PMSG) based WCS, the experimental methods have been employed to determine the key WG parameters. A surface mounted PMSG has been utilized in the experiments. Finally, utilizing the measured parameters a grid integrated WCS is developed in the MATLAB environment to study the system performances. The Simulink model is useful for the simulation of a grid integrated WCS. The WG parameter measurement methods and MATLAB simulations presented in this paper can be utilized in related research activities and teaching.
