Unsafe behaviours of workers have been repetitive causes of accidents in construction. Unsafe behaviours can be changed by changing workers' attitude towards hazards and safety. Affective education and training influence learners’ attitudes, values and motivation. Findings in neuroscience, psychology and cognitive science also recognised that affect plays a crucial role in guiding rational behaviour, memory retrieval, motivation, attention, decision-making and creativity. The deployment of a mentally influential medium is crucial to achieve the desired attitudinal change in workers. This paper discusses the development of a web-based tool for affective safety training of construction workers, which can help address the challenges posed by behaviour-related root causes of accidents and thereby minimise accidents on site.
